Easy to find cache located along the newly built Mountain Division Trail that runs from Standish, Maine to Windham, Maine.
Park at the Standish end of the Mountain Division Trail at the Johnson Field Recreation Area located at these coordinates: N43° 45.743, W70° 30.997. From there it is about a 1.25 mile hike along the MDT trail. Bikes, horses, wheelchairs and snowmobiles are also allowed on this trail, but no other motorized vehicles (except for trail maintenance or emergency) and especially no ATV's!
The Mountain Division Trail (MDT) runs 4.5 miles along the old Maine Central Railroad tracks from the town of Standish through the town of Gorham to the town of Windham in Maine, USA.The Mountain Division is a 50 mile transportation corridor linking North Conway, New Hampshire to Portland, Maine. It was abandoned by Guilford Railroad in 1994 (from Windham to Fryeburg, Maine) and then purchased by the Maine Division of Transportation in 1997. The trail was built in 2002/2003 with funding from the Federal Highway Administration and the Maine Department of Transportation as the first phase of a project to develop a multi-use trail along the entire length from Windham to Fryeburg.
On July 31st, 2005 we replaced the original container with an ammo box and replaced the missing log book. The cache was originally in a standard 4 liter clear plastic Rubbermaid with a blue rubber seal around the top.
