This cache has been archived.

Max Cacher: Hello again,

A few weeks ago we placed a note to this cache page asking that you post a message and send me a note about the status of this cache and what plans you had for it.

A no response from you, tells us that you do not plan on maintaining this cache and we have archived it, if you change your mind contact me and we will work it out to bring your cache back to life.

Thanks for understanding

Geocache Description:

From History to Serenity: This is a two part cache. You start by visiting the modest Walton Museum (Sam Walton was the founder of Wal-Mart, the world’s largest retailer). The coordinates to the front door are posted above, but just drive to 105 N. Main Street in Bentonville, AR.

You will need to write down clues on the lines below and then do some simple mathematics to determine the coordinates for the actual cache. The museum is open from 9-5 on Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Go in the museum and enjoy the displays. While there, jot down the answers to the following five questions:

1) How old was Sam when he died? ________

2) What year did Helen Walton receive a letter for the sport of Fencing? ________

3) What is the final odometer reading on Sam’s old pickup truck? ________

4) What was the number of the store that opened in 1974? ________

5) What is “Bud” Walton’s real first name?________
Now, determine the latitude and longitude of the actual cache by substituting numbers for the small-cap letters in the following coordinates:

Naa bb.443 and Wcc d.eee N__ __.443 W__ __.___

aa is determined by subtracting 3 from your answer to question #2
bb is the sum of all the digits from question #3 (odometer) minus 6
cc is the answer to question #1 (Sam's age) plus 20
d is the number of letters in Bud’s real first name (question #5)
Finally, eee is determined by multiplying the answer to question #4 (store number) by 7

Put them all together and you have the coordinates for the physical cache. It is about 7 miles from the museum (as the crow flies). Be sure to enjoy the nearby scenic lake, play ground, public pool and picnic areas. It’s a fabulous site.

The cache is hidden in thick foliage, so my Garmin Vista GPS was only accurate to 35 feet. But it shouldn’t be hard to find the cache. Once you’re there, its hiding place is obvious. There is a short, semi-steep hill to climb. Watch out for a little poison ivy in the area, and for the couple of strands of low-lying barbed wire.
