Geocache Description:

Located on the Port island very close to Inishbofin on a nice 30-40 min hike from the pier. You should either go during low tide, prepare to wade through a small strip of water (be carefull!), or rent a canoe at N53°36.822' W10°12.703'. Inishbofin can be reached from Cleggan by ferry (runs three times a day).

The cache is on a site where Oliver Cromwell used to house imprisoned Catholic clergy from all over the country after the English Statute of 1655 declared them guilty of high treason. Here they awaited transportation to the West Indies and other remote places.

The cache is a white tupperware box that initially contains:

  • The usual Logbook + Pens
  • a Dubliners-CD
  • a set of playing cards
  • an Inishbofin Keychain
  • Essence of Guinness
  • 3 'silver' and 2 'gold' coins for life-role-playing.
  • a lighter

Note on cache maintenance: "This is a vacation cache but i'll be able to maintain it at least once a year. Given the remote location and the expected low frequency of visits i figured this will be enough.
Note2: unfortunately i had a stroke and i haven't been able to maintain the cache for the last two years. I someone local is interested i can pass it over to him/her
Note3: Zola67 just installed a few more caches on inishbofin so you could do 7 caches on one day. click here
he'll also have a look on this one.
