Geocache Description:

Along Slate Creek in a walk-in area only. Horses and bikes ok, too.

This cache is near the Deerfield Trail that goes from Deerfield Lake to Pactola Resevoir. It is along a section that is walk-in only as stream crossings are many and vehicle travel was stopped a few years ago. You can reach it many ways. I placed the cache by traveling past Slate Creek Dam and parking at roads end at 44°02.552 103°37.694. It is a couple mile hike or bike from there. You can also hike southwest along Rapid and then Slate Creek from the Canyon City Trailhead. There are a few forest service roads that get close. Some of them may cross private land and travel is not guranteed, but may be closer. (Spaw Gulch 606, or 245) Either way, you are heading near Flannigans Cabin. An old cabin along Slate Creek. Full history of the old cabin can be found in local hiking and trail guides. There are logs spanning the creek to cross on if you don't want to get wet, but what fun is that? You may also see remnants of the old log Flumes along the trail. This is a good sized cache and there is room for plenty. One more stream crossing may be needed. Good Luck!
