Geocache Description:

Nidingen (= The Miscreant or The Vandal). A boulder-ridge in Kategatt forming a reef, in decades known by sailors as a grave-yard of wrecks.

Nidingen is also the oldest light-house in Scandinavia, built already 1624. 1832 2 towers built by stone were errected to substitute the old coal-fired pots. The reason to build a twin-lighthouse was to express the danger of the reefs in the nearby waters and that the light-house then not should be mixed up with any other lighthouse on the coast. 1946 a new modern lighthouse was built to substitute the old twin-towers. The new light-house is fully modern and remote controlled. The last crew moved ashore 1978. Since 1981 2 enthusiasts live at the place, taking care of the buildings, nature reservation and people coming out here to feel the peaceful atmosphere. When going out here to find the cache, take the opportunity to climb up in one of the old twin-towers. From this location you have a marvelous view over the coast, and can observe at least 15 spots where geocaches are placed. To come out here, you will need a pleasure-boat or a kayak. The small harbour is situated in the southern end of the reef. Please take care when entering, not to make a new line in the statistics of wrecks at Nidingen. From the beguinning the cache contained: * Log book + pencil * TB Siv-Eivor * Golfpeg * Screw clamp
