Geocache Description:

Enter on a Friday or Saturday evening & you'll find this quiet little town by day is rip-roaring with old-time music at night. You can barely walk down the sidewalk because of the crowds. Two men stand side-by side. Both have long hair & whiskers. One wears bib overalls & boots. The other a tie dyed shirt & Birkenstock sandals. The common thread of music & community draws them together to this sleepy mountain town w/ their fiddles, banjos & dancing shoes ready.

(~* CACHE MOVED Slightly & NEW COORDS ENTERED 9-10-07 due to destruction of earlier cache site.)

Back in the 70's I remember hearing it said it would NEVER work. Some folks pointed and said "Here come those HIPPIES - moving here on communes with their candles and health food." Other folks said "There goes those country boy rednecks who won't tolerate no strangers coming in to their town". But just come into Floyd County - and see how a community has learned to accept differences and create a "NEW AGE" from an "OLD TOWN".

As stated above - the most exciting time in Floyd is definitely on Friday and Saturday nights, about one block east of THE STOPLIGHT at the Jamboree. Today as I planted this micro-cache (match-case) it was only 4:30 and there were folks in the parking lot pulling out their fiddles and guitars getting ready to warm them up and carry them across the street to the jamboree. This musical happening literally draws local and visiting musicians from all over the world.

You can really touch and share your mountain heritage here. Anytime in Floyd, less than one-half mile from the stoplight in any compass direction, you will find a friendly small town steeped in history, where people cherish memories of yesteryear; home-cooked meals, a unique old-time general store, many shops carrying handmade items not to mention a school-house filled with fabrics.

And for those cultured tastes...there's a business dealing with organics and bulk foods including special gourmet items as well. A mercantile store, many crafts stores, cafes galore all await your visit. Engage in theater, dance, mountain music, rural arts, modern contemporary art, healing spiritual artistry, etc. This is all right here in town. The county is packed with even more delights and nearby attractions...the Blue Ridge Parkway, nearby Mabry Mill, wineries, antique stores and more... it's all here waiting for you...so come log in - day or night.

Remember it's a micro log - so (unlike I did) keep it short & sweet on the sign-in log - then come back to the web-site and tell us all about it! Take a PENCIL.

WARNING::: HINT contains some helpful info!!! This is designed to be a quick & ultra easy cache find - the hardest part is not to be seen. When you Zero In - you will be standing in a busy part of town... so you should be discreet. Will Ketchum's get out of GEO-jail cards don't work in Floyd Co.!
