The cache is located within sight of a Small Island in Burnt Island
lake in Algonquin Provincial Park. Cache Elevation: 437m
Accessible by canoe or kayak, expect a trip of
approximately 16km in from the Canoe Lake Access Point. The route
includes 3 portages (295m, 495m & 200m) Plan to stay the night
on one of the many excellent camp sites on Burnt Island Lake near
the cache (nearest is 240m West)
Starting from Canoe Lake (Access Point # 5), travel north to the
top of Canoe Lake, portaging 295 meters into Joe Lake. North and
then east on Joe Lake passing Arrowhon Lodge and up the creek to
the 495 meter portage around Lost Joe Lake into Baby Joe Lake.
(Don't forget to stop for the Lost Baby Joe's Cache: GC1444) A short paddle will
bring you to the 200 meter portage around a dam, into Burnt Island
Lake.
When you get to the small island, pull your canoe up on the sandy
"beach" at the East end. Feel free to jump in for a swim.
Unfortunately, due to high muggle traffic, the cache has been moved
off the island to the main land, (140m North) where it will not be
discovered by accident. Where you land for the cache is up to you.
There are a couple good spots, but weather and currents will change
things up. Hope you brought your fishing rods... word is, East of
the island is a great fishing spot!
The cache is located in the tangle of roots of a cluster of trees
trying to grow on top of a boulder. It's a camouflage painted
.30-cal ammo can filled with the standard Geocache items.
Continue on through Big Trout Lake and McIntosh Lake to create a
nice 4 or 5 day Canoe Trip. We did the route backwards in 4 days
when we placed the cache. Interested? Try one of these Canoe Routes Or just camp out on Burnt Island Lake for a day or two!
NOTES:
- Canoe / Kayak required.
- Portages (3) required
- Overnight stay likely
