Located at the old Hercules/Amlite mine.
Take the Hercules Road off of Rte. 130, just past the boat ramp at Snowden. Travel to the dead end. Walk in past the gate and follow the road bed into the area and up the mountain to the gap. The road has recently been pushed all the way to the gap. When at the gap, continue through to woods to the north where blue markings ahow the trail. When nearing the cache location stay on the trail to the crest for a great view of the mine pit, the Rocky Row, and the Rocky Row Run valley. Then look for the geocache. STAY ON THE TRAIL until you are within a few hundred feet of the geocache location. Attempting shortcuts can be dangerous.
I have placed several fast food toys, a "Where's George" dollar bill, a travel bug, a parachute man and a moist towelette.
This area was mined for the low quality slate. One use was for light weight aggregate. It was fired in a kiln to make it "airy" and was placed in concrete block. Now I think that a brick company is removing material for it's brick making operations.
This trail doesn't seem to show on most maps but it continues on to Salt Log Gap on the Appalacian Trail.
