How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

On February 26th, 2003, I broke my leg. The next day I had surgery in which I received one 2 1/2 inch pin, a 5 inch plate, 8 screws, and a 6 inch scar. It was in the months after when I was stuck at home surfing the Internet that I found Geocaching. The day after the cast came off, I hobbled to my first cache. If I hadn't broken my leg, I would never have found geocaching.

The listed coordinates will take you to the first leg of this multi which is located at the skate park where I broke my leg. There you will find the coordinates for the final leg. The park closes when the sun goes down, however you can reach this leg of the cache at any hour.

You will need to get back in your car and drive to nearby San Bruno mountain which is also open until sunset. You have some options for parking:

  • You can park in the lower lot of the park, but it will be a considerable hike to the cache. However, if you do your homework you can pick up two other caches along the way.
  • If the gate is open you can drive all the way to the top to a small parking area, .4 miles from the cache.

The final cache offers amazing 360° views when there is no fog. The trail is wide and well defined, with only minor elevation changes (assuming you start at the top). The final cache shouldn't be hard to find. It is about 15 feet off the trail, but you don't need to destroy any plants to get to it.
