It was our second anniversary on the day we planted this cache, hence the name.

From this cache site you can clearly see Dunnet Head, the most northerly bit of land on the British mainland, and The Old Man of Hoy, the famous stack on the eastern cliffs of the island of Hoy in the Orkneys.

Murkle was well known as far back as 1000 AD when the entire area was controlled by the Vikings. It's original name was Myrr-kelda which is Norse for "moor well". Through the ensuing decades its name changed several times as it evolved through Myrkholl and Myrkol to Murcle (recorded in 1297), Muirkill (1527) and penultimately Mirekill (1538).
