This is the first of six caches we have placed
in Shaw Nature Reserve.
The staff prides their selves on maintaining a well-groomed
nature reserve. Since it is a lot of work they have some rules that
must be followed to keep this area open to us for caching.
1) Sorry but NO PETS
2) No fires or smoking are allowed
3) Bikes are permitted but only on the service roads. Bikes are
not allowed on the trails
4) No hunting, fishing or swimming
The only way to enter the property is through the front gate
(entering any other way is considered trespassing); there is a
$3.00 admission charge for adults, senior citizens (65 and over),
$2.00, children twelve and under are free. Members of Missouri
Botanical Garden or Shaw Nature Reserve are free. Grounds are open
7:00 am to one-half hour past sunset. The visitor center is open
8:00 am to 4:30 pm weekdays and 9:00 am to 5:00 pm weekends.
To complete all of the caches you will travel about eight miles.
All of the caches but one are within ¼ mile of the Pinetum and
Trail House Loops. Pinetum loop is open every day; Trail house loop
is only open Monday through Thursday, April through November. The
area is closed one weekend a year for a managed deer hunt, usually
the first weekend in December. The only other time it is closed is
Christmas Day. For more information go here.
This is located in the Wildflower Garden. Take some time to walk
the trail there are a lot of pretty flowers and some really nice
water gardens. You do not have to get off the pavement to reach the
cache. Try to find without using the hint, the hint will make it
really easy.
We would like to thank John and the staff for letting us use
this area for caching. We would also like to thank Glenn and his
family for helping set up the caches.
