Located at the west end of the beautiful lake Storflåtan, 450 meters above sea-level.
By the big rock foundation for the 12th of 12 former, large water wheels:
Kjerraten, from German: Kehrrad (turning wheel), was a chain of 12 wheels constructed to transport lumber from Åsatangen in Steinsfjorden (63 meters above sea-level) up to Damtjern pond (452 m.a.s-l) and Storflåtan lake (454). It was built 1803-1809, and was in use till 1850.
The energy was running water, the river Åsaelven for wheel 1 - 11 and a creek for wheel 12. The 12th weel was built, but never worked, the power in the creek was insufficient. They had to use horses instead.
The top transport capacity was 240 logs per day. It took 3 hours to transport one log all the way up to Storflåtan.
The owner of Kjerraten was Peder Anker (1749-1824), he was the prime businessman in Norway and also the prime minister.
