Are birds really as dumb as we think?
I'll let you be the judge of that question.....
This short multi cache will provide a good place to observe bird behavior, especially that of ravens and raptors.
An expansive vista awaits at the first stage. On a clear day you can spot countless mountain ranges across the San Pedro river valley. On the distant eastern horizon, look for the twin rocky summits of "Dos Cabezas" south of the Pinaleno range.
For stage 1, park at the stop sign after milepost 19 where a dirt road cuts off to the right. Or, you can drive up the road about .25 mile to the official trailhead. High clearance vehicle or old car recommended for this road. Stage 2 can be best reached by using the signed Green Mountain Trailhead a few miles back down the Catalina Highway. Total RT distance for both stages should be around 4 miles give or take. A well-maintained trail takes you all the way to stage 1. The fires have made the terrain to the second stage a little more challenging.
Good luck and enjoy!
