The Devil's Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dosido: Went up to check on the cache tonight after reports that it was vandalized. The cache container (50 mm ammo can) is in fine shape, but the contents - aside from the log book and one item the last cacher left is gone.
Both travel bugs are unfortunately MIA. I searched the area for quite some time, and found two more items that were tossed out, but didn't have any luck finding the bugs.
As I suspected - from the vandals note and one other they had made quite awhile back, that most likely they were interrupted by a cacher while they were - let's say - in the mood. Apparently they took issue with that, warning us not to interrupt them again.
We won't do so - I'm archiving this cache as the location has been compromised, and it's seen a good run of 35 visitors. Perhaps I'll put a new one out in this area, as the view is spectacular!
Thanks for all who visited the Devil's Cache.

Geocache Description:

This cache is located atop Devil's Peak in Warren, MA. The hike is almost exactly 1 mile round trip. A fairly easy climb (20 minutes) affords beautiful views to the South, North and West along the Quabog river. A great fall foliage trek!

The cache itself is an ammo box painted army green with a geocaching sticker on it. It's located very close to the southern overlook.

Directions:
Devil's Peak is located in Warren, just off of Smith Road. Park at 42° 11.645N 072° 15.169W right where the road turns from pavement to dirt in a small pull-off. Take the 4WD path just behind your vehicle. (Note: Approach Smith Rd. from Gilbert Rd. - Smith is not open at the southern end)
There are many paths to the top of Devil's Peak, and this one is made special by the requirement of having to traverse a beaver dam! (Testament to the amount of rainfall we've gotten this year - in years past, the 4WD path has been passable.) It's a beautiful spot to admire the large pond - hopefully the beaver doesn't mind you passing through - he gave us an unappreciative smack of his tail when we departed!

Be sure to venture around the look out, to make sure you take in all the vistas!

Note: While it's easy to find the path to the top, be sure to take care in returning to your vehicle, as there are a lot of paths down the mountain, and it's easy to miss a turn here or there!

This probably is a good place to cache in/trash out, as the ease of getting to the top has apparently made for a few parties there.
