Semaphore Sector Sketch Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Touchstone: Sounds like the State Parks is beginning to make the place safe for folks to be out here and are starting to clear some of the old decaying buildings. Time to put this one out of it's misery and await the new Fort Ord Dunes State Park :)

Geocache Description:

This is a relatively easy two stage multi in some of the abandoned Ft Ord land, now State Park property. Still undeveloped, this is an easy stroll along the abandoned railroad tracks.

This is an easy stroll along the abandoned railroad tracks on what used to be Ft. Ord, but is now State Park property. There are two parts to this mutli-cache. The final cache container is a rectangular tupperware container.

A couple of suggestions for those heading out for this one:

1. There are a number of fences still remaining from the Ft Ord days. None are posted as off limits. There are multiple ways to get around some of these fences without climbing over barbed wire. The parking area that I used is at:

N 36 39.185
W 121 48.872

2. The ties along the tracks are covered in tar and creosote. You can avoid soiling the bottom of your shoes by walking adjacent to the tracks on the gravel. Otherwise, avoid using your favorite shoes.
3. There are several “homeless” encampments in the immediate area. Particularly, I ran across some tents and tarps in the center of the large oval that the train tracks makes. By staying on the tracks, and not cutting across the oval (i.e. making a “crows fly” approach) you should avoid detection and/or confrontation with anyone.
4. There is no need to go inside any structures to find the cache.

The first stage will bring you to an obvious landmark along the tracks. There are two numbers stenciled on the diamond shaped signal near these coordinates. The top number is a four digits long (we'll call XXXX) and the bottom number is three digits in length (we'll call this YYY). You can calculate the final cache coordinates with the following equation:

XXXX-71= AAA
YYY+90= BBB

The final cache is at:

N 36 38.AAA
W 121 49.BBB
