"HOGG By The Bog" Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

flossmoor: It is with deep regret that I make the final decision to archive this cache.

First, I want to thank Carla from Lost N Looking for recovering the final cache in my absence, before the unsavory element which ultimately killed GCH0GG could get to it in retribution. Lost N Looking was the third to complete the course, and the first (one of only two) to complete the entire course with no additional hints from me.

Second, I want to thank MRH - Terre Haute for accepting my initial request to manage the cache in my absence. There was a significant outcry from those who had survived... um, completed the cache: each of them has a story, and each story usually involves invoking bodily harm upon me. He has worked the route (successfully) more times than anyone else, which made him the ideal... no, the one person I would consider to manage, if not inherit, GCH0GG. I wish we could have kept this open long enough for Tigerpoo to make it to the final cache, but I know enough about what she has already worked that I will award her a technical find, if she wishes to accept it.

Third, thank you to all (but one) who put in the time and effort to work the cache, walk the course, solve the puzzles, and... well, not invoke bodily harm. The challenge to so much as begin the course which gained such notoriety was something few accepted. I know of several of you who worked small portions of the course. I wish I could offer you something for your efforts. At the very least, I can give you my heartfelt thanks.

I will try to post the original course instructions as well as solutions in the near future, for all who are interested to read.

Most of you are already aware of the unctuous element which has been ravaging area caches. He focused on mine for quite some time (primarily due to envy of location and containers used), and has continued to do so (as well as, apparently, at least one other cacher) even for the two months since I left the area due to a family emergency.

His find has been revoked from this cache, as well as several others. This kind of activity is being monitored at the local and regional level, and will not be tolerated. Disrespecting me and my work, even after I have handed the management of my caches to others, is no big deal to me: if it was, I could have been equally petty and done the same back to his own caches, as early as November of last year when this individual had already make himself a prime suspect. This is not how I operate. Instead, I've delete his logs, for I will NOT allow a person to maintain finds on my caches when they repeatedly and willfully disrespect others who spend their limited free time seeking caches which no longer exist due to his own pettiness and personal greed.

And, at least, deleted logs means some of the time HE spent searching for caches has now been wasted, for a change.

Admin: please archive this cache.

Flossmoor, planting a 4/3 difficulty cache? FLOSSMOOR?

I've decided it's time to plant my first multicache. You will be provided with complete details as to the nature of the cache via instructions available on-site.

Yes, I'm being intentionally vague. However, I will reveal the following:

- there are a higher-than-average number of "parts" to the multi
- the individual "parts" are microcaches of varying size and shape
- these parts are not particularly difficult to locate
- travel was designed to be circuitous, so it is possible to accomplish with little overlap of travel
- travel can be almost exclusively on well-worn paths, if you want it to be
- nonetheless, set aside a significant amount of time
- there is a thinking element in regard to the final cache
- so set aside some more time

The difficulty rating is a suggested rating based upon the potential length of your overall walk, as well as time. You aren't going to need therapy when you've finished, but you might want to bring along a few snacks.

I'm preannouncing the debut of the cache for October 11, a unique experiment allowed through the courtesy of geocaching.com. Why?

- First and foremost: to equalize the field, allowing the opportunity to become a "first finder" to be considerably less impromptu
- I will be on-site to observe and receive feedback on the cache during the first day (this allows us to effectively "beta test" the multicache)
- To encourage participation while I'm on-site, there will be finder's prizes for the first FIVE finders.
- As further encouragement, I opted to release the cache on the same day as a buffalo chip tossing contest (1pm, hosted on the premises by park officials)... who would want to miss that? ...and what an opportunity to "cache in, trash out" (ewww).

I saw your eyes bug out with the mention of prizes.

- 1st Finder(s): unactivated geocoin + $25 Outback gift certificate (winners: Bogbusters)
- 2nd Finder(s): unactivated geocoin + $5 Waldenbooks gift card (winners: Land Surveyor 1 and Dolphin Cacher)
- 3rd Finder(s): unactivated geocoin (winners: Lost and Looking)
- 4th Finder(s): unactivated geocoin (winner: CYBret)
- 5th Finder(s): unactivated geocoin (winners: Illiana Hunter)

One prize per team, please.

Wow. That's a lot of information from someone who implied he wasn't going to say much.

The actual coordinates are now posted! See you at the park.

Have an FRS (those cute little family radio walkie talkie thingies) or amateur radio handheld? Bring them, as I will be monitoring both on October 11. Frequency information, as well as the exact nature of the multicache, will be divulged on a sheet you pick up at the first cache.

You will also benefit greatly by bringing a pencil with an eraser.
