Located in Northwood Meadows State Park off of Rt. 4 in Northwood. As of 7-4-06 the N.H. Parks web site listed this park as WALK-IN ONLY! That makes this cache and others in this park much more difficult in regards to time and effort. Park near gate off of Rte.4. Walk in and take left when road forks. Enter woods at the 'N.H. stone'. No bushwhacking. Steep slope leading into pond is a danger for children, please watch kids closely. I'm guessing it's a 20 to 25 min. walk (one way).
Local Indian legend is that there is a cave submerged under the pond where the Demons live, and that at certain times of the year, or when disturbed by humans, they crawl from the depths to seek thier prey on land. The first people to settle this area wrote that if you look deep into the waters of the pond, you may see the red eyes of a Demon looking back at you! Legend also tells that the large stone at the entrance to the pond was placed by the Indians as a warning to keep away from this pond! Yeah, I made it all up, except the pond's name really is Demon pond and I figured it needed a story. Happy geocaching!
