Geocache Description:

Charles Knife Canyon is accessed via Charles Knife Road located about 21km south of Exmouth. It is an 11km stretch of partly sealed, partly gravel road at times dramatically narrows to one lane with a sheer drop either side… with views that will blow your mind!

This 20 year old cache has been placed at a lookout accessible to all vehicles where the road remains sealed. As you close in on the cache coordinates, you will see a carpark to the southern side of the road. Pull over here and appreciate the gorgeous views of the gulf. If you can time it for sunrise you won’t regret getting up early as you will be blessed with an unforgettable sight.

OK… now back to the reason you are here… the cache is located about 40m from the carpark. Watch your step on the way down and as you reach GZ as there are quite a few unsteady rocks and holes, both of which combined contain and cover the treasure… when you find the right one J The cache is a small 250mL container with a log, pencil and some trade items. From March through to October the town is quite busy & so is this area so be muggle aware. Please place cache back how you found it so we can hopefully keep it alive for another 20+ years!

Unlike Shothole Canyon, Charles Knife provides a downward view from the razor-backed ridges into the stark multi-coloured gorges as opposed to driving along the creek beds. The height and depths of these gorges (320m above sea level) are truly only appreciated by driving up them. It is hard to keep your eyes on the road so take advantage of the several scenic lookouts to stop at for some more breathtaking views and amazing photo opportunities. Keep an eye out for some of the 700 caves scattered throughout the Cape Range, along with deep canyons and impressive cliff faces.

You can easily spend hours moving slowly along the 11km road. The Cape Range National Park really is a treasure worth seeing, the caches are just an added bonus treasures along the way!
