Geocache Description:

Cache is a round Altoids container with a log book and a few items for trade. Please bring your own pencil

This cache is located above the floodplain at the site of the only working ferry between Terre Haute and Vincennes. The ferry is owned by an association of farmers and is still used for hauling grain and equipment across the river.

I know a couple of these farmers and have heard some interesting stories relating to accidents that have happened on the ferry. One such story is about a grain truck that drove the ferry out from under it and fell straight down into the river requiring a complicated extraction from the Wabash and a subsequent overhaul of the trucks motor to remove all of the river water and muck from inside the engine.

If you are fortunate to visit this cache site while the ferry is being used you will get to witness a piece of history in action. Good luck.
