Geocache Description:

Located at Cape Clear where you get one of the best views on Cape Breton Island.

Cape Clear is located high above the Northeast Margaree River between First Fork Brook and Second Fork Brook. From this lookoff you get an amazing panoramic view.

The cache is located just off the side of the road near its end. You can drive an ordinary car to within a few hundred meters of the cache while a vehicle with good ground clearance can be driven to within just a few meters. The cache is a white pail (approx. 4 liters) with an orange top. It is obscurred well so that it hopefully won't be found accidentally.

There are a number of ways to reach Cape Clear. If you don't have a topograpic map and knowledge of the highland road system, I suggest the following route: Turn off of the Cabot Trail onto the "Highland Road" at UTM 20T 663011E 5110677N. Follow this excellent gravel road to 669635E 5146977N and turn left onto the road signed "2nd Forks Brook South (Cape Clear)". Follow this road past numerous intersections always staying on the road most travelled. There are a few signs for Cape Clear along the way.

The first time I drove here I was in a small car, had no map or GPS receiver -- just directions provided by a friend. I had no problem but please NOTE the following:

1) The roads to Cape Clear are not public roads. They are logging roads built by Stora and are used at your own risk.
2) Cape Clear is in a very remote area. Please make the necessary preparations before you start your trip in.
3) The cliffs at the look off are extremely high. Children should be supervised very closely at all times.
4) Be careful of Moose and other wild animals on the roads.
