Geocache Description:

NEW COORDINATES POSTED - CACHE HAS MOVED!

Located in Cedar Hill Cemetary. The gates close at 7PM in the summer, 5PM CDT. Located near "Soldier's Rest". GPS was doing well, so coords should be accurate. Please be very respectful of this site. This is a very old cemetary and it's very easy to damage stuff. You won't have to disturb any graves to get to this cache!

Soldier's Rest
The City of Vicksburg served as a major hospital center in the early years of the Civil War. A section in the Cedar Hill (Vicksburg City ) Cemetery was set aside to provide a fitting burial place for Confederate soldiers who died of sickness or wounds. Known as "Soldier's Rest," the plot in Cedar Hill Cemetery is the final resting place for an estimated 5,000 Confederate soldiers.
A local undertaker, Mr. J.Q. Arnold, was hired by the Confederate government to bury Southern soldiers and carried out those duties throughout the Siege of Vicksburg. As these men did not meet the criteria established by Congress for burial in a national cemetery, their remains were not moved and still rest today in Cedar Hill Cemetery where their graves are lovingly maintained by the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

The cache is a large ammo box. Original contents:
Camera (take a photo and write the exp# in the log, please)
Irby cold beverage hugger
Silly String
Baby football
Original Zapruder film
Minor wound care kit
Desert Shield camo flag patch
Military Airlift Command patch
Moon rocks
F16 fighter w/stand

Please be careful to not destroy the foliage around the cache. Coverage is at a premium at this site. Try to re-hide cache as good as possible.

Also take some time to drive around the very large cemetery. Great statuary. I have burned miles of film photographing here...
