Geocache Description:

This virtual cache is the final resting place of the great Sioux Chief Sitting Bull.

Sitting Bull was originally burried just outside of the Standing Rock Agency at Fort Yates in North Dakota, and in 1953 his remains were moved to this bluff on the west bank of the Missouri River south west of Mobridge, South Dakota, where this granite shaft marks his grave. This site was initially on the main highway, the highway was moved when the Missouri was flooded after the completion the Oahe Dam at Pierre, SD. A new bridge and Highway 12 were built to the north, removing Sitting Bull's grave from the beaten path.

To claim credit for the cache send picture of the memorial with gps receiver, or email the date that the burial site was dedicated.

"When I was a boy, the Sioux owned the world. The sun rose and set on their land; they sent ten thousand men to battle. Where are the warriors today? Who slew them? Where are our lands? Who owns them?" - Sitting Bull

"If the Great Spirit had desired me to be a white man, he would have made me so in the first place." - Sitting Bull
