This micro cache is hidden in a new Oakland park which commemorates the devastating 1991 Oakland Berkeley fire.
After a day of geocaching in the north bay, we drove past the Gateway Garden and Pavilion Park on the way home and decided to drop off a film cannister. It's surprising no one has placed a cache here before.
The Gateway Garden and Pavilion was designed by Peter Scott, a firestorm survivor. The pavilion center is symbolic of the destruction and renewal following the terrible 1991 firestorm. It contains an Emergency Preparedness Exhibit focusing on fires and earthquakes in the region.
This special park includes a short walking trail with granite benches and standing stone monuments. Be sure to take time to enjoy the magnificent views of the city and bay.
