Haypook Summit
The Alexander Murray Hiking Trail located in King's Point, Newfoundland, is a scenic 9 km (round trip, aprox. 4 hrs with rest stops and a quick snack) hiking trail from which one can view many species of flora and fauna including the Newfoundland Pitcher Plant. From a section of the hiking trail, atop the North Ridge, on a clear day one can see the coastline, Cape John to the northeast, the open Atlantic ocean with its icebergs, the Gaff Topsails deep in the interior of the island to the southeast, and Hall's Bay to the south. The Alexander Murray Hiking Trail runs to the entrance of Corner Brook Gorge, through a variety of terrain and ground cover. It climbs from the entrance of the gorge to the top of Haypook (elev. 1000'). A side-trail down a steep ravine leads to Corner Brook Falls in the depths of the gorge. The trail then descends along a tributary of Gull Brook, to Gull Brook Falls, and then follows Gull Brook down to the bottom of the ridge to the point where it flows into Corner Brook. If you're seeking for adventure, while at the same time experiencing Green Bay's rich culture, scenery and wildlife, you must hike the Alexander Murray Hiking Trail. It will definitely be an unforgettable experience.
