Geocache Description:

Named for the nearby Triadelphia Reservoir and the beaver we saw in the Patuxent River, which feeds the reservoir. Access the cache via the red-blazed trail that runs between the Patuxent River State Park parking area on MD Rt. 97 and the Triadelphia Reservoir Boat Ramp at the end of Triadelphia Lake Road.

The trail runs through the woods along the river between the Patuxent River State Park parking area on MD Rt. 97 (N39 14.299 W77 03.376) and the Triadelphia Reservoir Boat Ramp at the end of Triadelphia Lake Road (N39 14.013 W77 02.607). It’s a pleasant 1/2 mile hike from either the parking area or the boat ramp. There is ample parking at both locations. If you park at the parking area on Rt. 97, go under the bridge to pick up the trail along the river.

The WSSC Watershed Property is open for hiking from March 15 through November 30, conditions permitting, ½ hour before Sunrise to Sunset. The watershed is closed for the winter season from December 1 through March 14. The cache will be disabled when the watershed property is closed.

The cache is a .30 Caliber Grade I 10x7x3 Ammo Can. It is located a short distance off the trail, up a small, rocky hill. Unlike the previous location, there are not many briars or brambles, making the approach easier. I recommend approaching the cache from the NORTHWEST or NORTHEAST, rather than directly from the NORTH, to avoid the steeper part of the hill and the rocks. The cache is pretty well concealed, so once you get to the coordinates, you may have to do some searching. Please be sure to replace the cache exactly as you find it.

The cache was placed at the current location (on November 14, 2010) because the previous location was overrun with briars and brambles, making the approach difficult. The cache was placed at the previous location (on December 5, 2004) after the original cache (hidden on November 2, 2003) vanished without a trace from its location.

Enjoy!

NOTE FROM WSSC: This cache has been approved by WSSC and is on WSSC’s Patuxent Reservoirs Watershed Property. The WSSC watershed is approximately 5,600 acres, which includes the two Patuxent reservoirs, Triadelphia and T. Howard Duckett which hold approximately 11 billion gallons of water combined and serve as the water supply source for more than 1.8 million people in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. The reservoirs also provide numerous recreation including shore fishing, boat fishing from approved craft, boating from rowboats, canoes, kayaks, and sailboats, picnicking, horseback trail riding and hiking. Daily or seasonal permits are required. See (visit link) for more details. Enjoy your visit and help us keep the reservoirs and watershed property clean and safe for everyone. Use trash receptacles and obey the rules that have been established to protect you, pristine water supply sources and environmental treasures.
