After almost five years, the "Zodiac Series" has been a
successful and satisfying experience, but I feel the time has come
to open up these areas for new challenges. Therefore, each cache in
the series will be archived on the fifth anniversary of its
publishing date. Many thanks to all those who have, and will,
visit!!
"The Zodiac Series: Taurus" will be archived on November 3,
2008
TAURUS
April 21 - May 2
* Persevering * Calm * Patient*
Taurus is an earth sign, ruled by the planet Venus and exalted
by the moon.
===================================
The Zodiac Series is well suited to geocaching since the sun,
moon, and planets that follow their own paths through the fixed
constellations are known as "the Wanderers".
This is a thirteen part series of "stand alone" caches that
begins at the Southern Terminus of the Bruce Trail in Queenston,
Ontario, and works is way northward. All caches are accessible from
the Bruce (no side trails or loops). Under the lid, and on the
first page of the log book of the the first twelve caches, you will
find a number and either a "N" or "W" designation. Be sure to copy
down these "codes" accurately if you wish to locate the thirteenth
cache. ===================================
Taurus is the second sign of the Zodiac, and the second cache of
the series.
The cache is located on the Bruce Trail in Queenston. Nearest
parking and Trailhead for "Taurus":
N 43' 09. 231
W 79' 04.350
Traihead for "Gemini" (Limited parking where you can find
it)
N 43' 08.832
W 79' 06.025
You have three options:
You can park at the Taurus parking lot, locate the cache, return
to your vehicle, drive to the other end of the trail section, and
search for Gemimi from there. Total walking distance : Approx 3 -
3.5 km
Park at the Taurus lot, locate the cache, and continue down the
trail to Gemini. Total walking distance: Approx. 3 - 3.5 km
Find parking near the Gemini trailhead, and search for both
caches from that starting point Total walking distance: 3 - 3.5
km.
Not a heck of a difference there, huh? My recommendation: Start
from the Gemini trailhead and look for both of them from there.
You' ll enjoy a walk down the old NYC railway line above a golf
course until a short climb up the rest of the escarpment leads to
some great views. The Taurus approach is hilly, rutted, and the
views are obscured until just beyond the Taurus cache.
Good Luck With The Rest Of The Series!!
