The View From Eagle Rock Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Mannings: This was a fun cache while it lasted, but due to idle muggle youth, it no longer seems safe. Thanks to all who visited it over the last two years.

Geocache Description:

Eagle Rock, a large natural sandstone formation just off the 134 freeway, was a big favorite of my children when they were younger. Noted by Spanish explorers, its distinguishing feature is the figure of an eagle in flight, which is most noticable as a shadow during certain times of the day. The Eagle Rock originally was used by Native Americans who inhabited the area as a type of fort because it was a good location to see movements of settlers in the area. The bandit Tiburcio Vásquez was said to have used the rock as a hideout before he robbed people in 1874. He is better known for hiding out at, what is now known as, Vasquez Rocks. An alcoholic French beekeeper also used to live in one of the 2 caves in the rock.

Only recently, in 1995, has the city of Eagle Rock purchased the eponymous rock.

The first waypoint will bring you to a plaque. Note the date it was declared, and the monument number. To figure out the second waypoint:

Date: 19XY
A:X+1
B:Y+1
Monument: CD

N 34 08.5AB
W 118 CC.DDC

The cache is an easy climb up, but please watch young children! It is not wheelchair accessible, though the first waypoint is. This is a great place to CITO!

The cache is a rubbermade container. Please cover it up!
