Geocache Description:

This cache is located somewhere in Hetchell Woods, to find the exact co-ordinates you must start at the above reference.

Hetchell Woods contains large earthworks consisting of man-made grassy mounds and trenches thought to be remains of a Roman encampment or fort called Pompocali.

It is situated alongside a Roman road called Ryknield Street which ran north through Bardsey. The Romans had two legions stationed in the region to protect it; the IX and later the VI. The Romans stayed in the area until about 600AD.

To find the cache, first visit the co-ordinates above where there is a date underneath a Bay Horse. Add together the numbers of the Roman legions who protected the area and then mulitiply this by 65. Now subtract the total you have from the date you have found to make the unknown part of the co-ordinate shown below.

N53° 52.433 W001° 25.***

IMPORTANT
Car thieves operate in the parking areas so please take all your valuables with you.

You can park at N53° 52.495 W001° 25.407 (involves a hill)
or at N53° 52.934 W001° 26.389 (follows old railway)
