This cache has been archived.

Nomex: Hi Fyre Dawg
As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm temporarily archiving this to keep it from continually showing up in search lists. Just contact us when you have the cache repaired, [RED]and assuming it still meets the guidelines[/RED], we'll be happy to unarchive it.

You may email me at via the link to my profile on the log. [red]Please be sure to include the cache name and GCxxxx number, or better yet, the URL of the cache page.[/red]

Thanks for your cooperation!

Geocache Description:

*** THIS IS AN OFFSET CACHE ***

Developed in 1929, this is Oceanside's oldest park. Originally named for its location on Parnassus Circle (which got its name from a visitor who said that the panoramic view from the hilltop reminded him of Mount Parnassus in Greece), the park was renamed for John "Buddy" Todd, the first Oceanside resident to give his life for his country in World War II. The park has 19 acres with beautiful ocean views and all the amenities that make a park great like a playground, barbecue/picnic tables, basketball/volleyball court, restrooms and pets on a leash.

The cache is a small ammo box and can be found with a short scavenger hunt to find two key posted dates. Both dates are within 400 feet of the starting point at the above coordinates.

First, find the memorial that reads "To the memory of those who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of our country". Add 20 to the last two digits of the year this memorial was dedicated. Subtract that new number from the latitude of the starting point to get the latitude of the cache.

Next, find a small flagpole in need of repair (no flag). Subtract 42 from the last two digits of the date stamped in the foundation. Add that new number to the longitude of the starting point to get the longitude of the cache.

You can find this cache with a good pair of eyes after doing the math above and decoding the clue below. Bush-whacking is not necessary! Please re-hide the cache well when you're done as it's already been "muggled" once. I would also suggest approaching the final coordinates from the west for an easier walk.

The cache originally contained the following items:

  • Logbook/Pen

  • WWII Flying Glider

  • Whistle

  • Pocket Connect Four game

  • Finger cuffs

  • Play-Doh

  • Squirt gun

  • Fire breathing dinosaur

  • Superball

  • Micro "Zip" car

  • Kid sized sunglasses

  • Silly Putty

  • Mini highlighter

  • Music Master Harmonica

  • Geocaching.com key chain/compass

  • Orange County Fire Authority Series 1 trading cards (1/2 set)

  • $10 Blockbuster Gift Card (incentive for FTF)

  • "The Safety Bug" travel bug

My first attempt at hiding a cache - Hope you enjoy!
