Geocache Description:

This is my first cache, and was chosen by my 6 year old nephew and 8 year old niece (Brandon & Lauren). It's hidden along a bike trail that used to be the old wagon trail and highway before the interstate came along. It should be easy to find. The terrain is relatively flat and is a blacktopped bike trail for walking, jogging, biking and cross country skiing. Dogs are welcome.

Lauren and Brandon had differing opinions on whether to make this easy or hard. So, you have a choice of how difficult/adventurous you'd like to make it. 1- If you'd like to make a longer (2 mile) walk, or bike to the cache, you may start at the Minnesota Visitors Center parking lot, at N 43 51.607 W 091 18.338. It's a very nice information center with great view of the Mississippi. There's also walking trails, picnic areas, rest rooms and boat landings here. A short drive (or walk) upriver is the Corp of Engineers Lock and Dam #7 with a visitor information & viewing area. This is a definite "must see" for kids if a barge or other "river traffic" is "locking through". 2- For a shorter walk, you can take I-90 exit 272 (A or B depending on which way you're coming) to Riverview Street in Dresbach. There is a parking area on Riverview St at N 43 53.189 W 091 20.217. The cache is an easy 0.5 mile walk on the bike trail. 3- For a whole day adventure, you can bike this trail up through Dakota, MN where you catch the Apple Blossom Trail (Co Rd 12) up to the top of the bluffs, then to Co Rd 1 and around and down into La Crescent, where you can follow HWY 14/61 bike trail back to the visitors center. This is a great spring ride when the trees blossom! The cache is a black and blue Lays stacker (potato chip)container with a log, pencil and a bunch of toys chosen by Lauren & Brandon. They'd like the cache to be a Toy Cache for kids, but please feel free to leave anything you'd like. The hiding spot is close to the trail in an easily accessible spot, so do not venture too far off. Lauren & Brandon hope you and other kids enjoy the area and the cache. Watch for bald eagles, hawks, turkey vultures, ducks, geese, swans, raccoons, pelicans, snakes and multitude of small animals.
