Geocache Description:

We have hidden our cache in the wall inside the ruins. You may get help from the attached photos.

The castle of Sebesvar (Roumanian name Bologa)once used to control the way from Oradea (Nagyvarad) to Cluj (Kolozsvar). This was the collecting place of the gold coming from the mines of Zalatna.

It,s first written mention is dated to 1319, when many thousand hectares of royal estate belonged to it as accessory of the position "voivod of Transylvania".

In 1433 the Hungarian king Zsigmond has awarded it to the family Banffy and it remained in their property until 1944.

The military importance of the castle increased after 1660 when the Ottoman Empire occupied Oradea after the complete defeat of the Hungarians leaded by the Transylvanian monarch II.Rakoczy Gyorgy, who has got deadly wound in the battle.

The definitive decay of the castle befalled in 1711, when the Austrians has exploded it.

The castle can be easily approached - many tourists visit it because of it,s picturesque location.

Have a good adventure!
