This is a theme cache and the theme is anything military and anything to do with bees. This is in a nice little park south of one of the coastal bridges south of Yachats. While here take a walk on the beach.
This cache is a green painted ammo can. The original contents: 2-3rd Armor patches, 1-armor patch, 1-army 24th infantry patch, 3-6th army patches, 1-staff sgt. chevrons, 3-sgt. chevrons, 1-staff sgt. chevron, 1-platic army man of the flame thrower variety, 2-US brass insignias, 1-armor brass insignia, 1-air force hat insignia, 1-34th armor metal insignia, 1-WWII Special Alaska Defense Command patch, 1-sine mora metal insignia, 1-Bee Roller stamp, 1-bee hive postage stamp holder, 1-resin tea set, 1-2 bears around a honey pot ceramic set, 2-bee rubber stamp, 1-glass bee egg, 1-bee hive coaster, 1-burts bee's bay rum cologne, 1-page of bee stickers (small), 1-page of bee stickers (large), 1-bee pot gripper (hangs on honey jar or cup), and The RayBee Bear traveler. This cache is to honor my brother Raymond Varner who passed away this August. He and I were split up in 1946 when we were placed in the Idaho Childrens home and adopted out with our other brother Jim. We all got together for the first time 2 years ago and found that we had two other brothers as well. Ray was a Marine in Vietnam and was retired from the Washington County Sheriffs Office with a bee and honey business to occupy his time in retirement. If any of you know Ray and have some good stories to share please e-mail me. I would love to learn more about him.
