Classic ammo box in the woods, off a steep forest road.
Straight-forward, easy to find cache located on Mt. Yonah. Placed as incentive for cachers to 'come and climb the mountain' and grab a nearby cache also. This cache is along a forest road below the Ranger station and off of the main trail to the summit. Some of the best views in Northeast Georgia are here. The hike to the summit is 2.5 miles and gains more than 1,600 feet in elevation. The hike can be strenuous at times. Bring plenty of water. Yonah became a haven for thousands and thousands of rock climbers, campers and sight-seers. The flow of visitors slowed a few years ago, however, when owners of the private land that surrounds the public rock face closed Yonah Mountain Road, the area's only access route. With the NEW Forest Service trail and parking location, everyone can enjoy this unique site.
