Geocache Description:

Crystal Bend - Historic Cache (Ōtaki)

This cache was originally placed on 22nd Nov 2003 by Brett & Allen (Glutnix). It is the oldest cache (still active) in Ōtaki and the 5th oldest within a 25km radius of our home. When recent flood protection work was carried out along the Ōtaki river, the location of the cache and the actual cache itself were buried under rubble. This area was also notorious for being overgrown with blackberry!!!

There was an archive request in place for the cache but we really wanted to keep it going due to its age. We contacted the original owner who said they could no longer maintain it - so we adopted it. We have tried to keep the size of the container, along with other characteristics, as close to the original cache as possible but we have needed to place it in a slightly different location.

Car parking waypoints have now been added. Parking at P1/P3 allows you to walk/cycle the riverbank pathway. You can park a little closer at P2 but BEWARE! This is not bike friendly, it crosses private land and may have an electric fence!

The cache is now a 750ml camouflaged pill bottle with enough room for swaps and small TB’s.

26th June 2021: Due to the previous hiding place being totally mowed & flattened, we have had to make a new container and replace in a different location.

Please note that photos in the gallery prior to June 2021 are related to the previous cache locations.

Please BYOP and replace exactly as found.
