Located near a nature trail at Edisto Beach State Park.
Edisto Beach State Park is one of the original CCC parks in SC. It has cabins, camping, a newly refurbished nature center, a gift shop and a great beach where beachcombers often find sharks’ teeth.
The park is really too nice a place not to have an active geocache in the neighborhood, especially considering that the park management is pro-geocaching. All they ask is that cachers avoid hiding caches in sensitive dune areas. (If you’d like to add another cache on this trail, I’d really enjoy coming back to find it.)
The nature trail is a four-mile loop through a forested section of the island featuring live oaks festooned with Spanish moss, wax myrtle, cherry laurel, pine, etc. If you do the complete trail, you’ll come across a surprise marsh view or two.
I hid this cache some distance off the trail, so you’ll have to bushwhack a bit, but it won’t be difficult. The understory is relatively open, but watch out for spiders and snakes.
Cache container is an ammo box that is stuffed with useful geogoodies, including a calculator, $2 bill, flashlight, Travel Bug, etc. It’s completely hidden from prying eyes. Before you leave, please leave it that way so that the cache will be there for the next seeker.
