Geocache Description:

This is no longer a multi-cache. Due to the high water, the original cache floated away last summer and has now been replaced with the usual ammo box container cache. Please replace as found to keep from roaming muggles...enjoy the area!

The Doctors Mayo

Around the turn of the century, Dr. Charlie and Dr. William Mayo organized medical professionals in a new way to better care for patients. They created a system that allowed doctors to take the time to thoroughly investigate patient problems and to quickly and easily get help from other specialists.

The system was built on the idea that two heads are better than one and five are even better. It also encouraged a continual search for better ways of diagnosis and treatment. Patients flocked to the Mayo’s because of their ability to find answers to their problems.

To fully enjoy this cache, you should also visit the burial site of the founders of the Mayo Clinic located in Oakwood Cemetery near downtown Rochester, MN (East Center St and 7th Ave NE). The tombstones are located close to each other within the cemetery at the following coordinates:

William James Mayo: N44 01.600 W092 27.296

Charles Horace Mayo: N44 01.606 W092 27.296

The historic site is placed just off of Mayowood Rd. SW. Take some time to explore the lake area and dam site. The dam was originally created by Dr. Charlie, whose historic home sits nearby, so that he and his family may enjoy lake side living.
