This is a year round cache located in Corinna, Maine. Terrain is flat, but it could be a tough cache in the winter.
This is a multi-cache. The coordinates are for the first cache (Cache 1). If you find the first cache, it has the coordinates for the second cache (Cache 2), which has the logbook and goodies.
This cache is designed to be done all year round with kids. We’re hoping it will be most fun in the winter since this is a super area to snowshoe or ski and there are no bugs. It is also a popular snowmobiling area so be aware or do it on your sled. It is a great hike anytime in the year, too. If you go during hunting season, WEAR ORANGE. If you go during the winter, bring snowshoes or skis. If you go during the spring or summer, bring the bug dope.
Both caches are located off the ground so they could be found in the snow. The details are as follows:
Cache 1 is located near an old homestead foundation and well. It is reported to be part of an old religious retreat active in the 1800’s. There is good parking here, except it may be difficult in deep snow. The road to the first cache is gravel and is considered Class 6 for the last mile (we drive it year round in our minivan). It is typically plowed in the winter, but it is very icy. If there is a lot of snow, make sure you pull off enough to let other vehicles get by.
Cache 1 is a green ammo box, which is empty except for the goecaching information and the coordinates for Cache 2.
Cache 2 is also in a green ammo box about 1/4 of a mile from Cache 1. There is an old trail that you can follow, but it is somewhat overgrown and is difficult to find initally. We take our 4 year old twins through the trail just fine. Bushwhacking is possible, but the trail is definitely better. This cache contains the log book as well as some goodies to trade.
