Geocache Description:

The original cache - a salt beef pail - was hidden by the First Pius X Cubs on a beautiful bright fall day. Great cache to do in conjunction with Tick and Nammie's Nature's Treat. The cache has been adopted to keep this old listing alive on the geocaching map, and the description below is a combination of info from 48degrees' initial hide and Cache the Bayman!'s August 2022 update.

As the name implies, this cache gives you quite the view of St. John's from ground zero.  If you've never been here, it's quite amazing - basically one moment you're ambling along on a manicured woodland trail, the next moment you're standing at an increbile panoramic view of St.John's - as shown above.  The picture given here is intentionally just a teaser - come here in person as no picture could do justice to the views which this spot provides.

You can reach the cache easily from Mount Scio Road or from the Long Pond Trail.

From Mount Scio Road you can park at the Botanical Garden lot and follow north along the gravel trail which runs parallel with Mount Scio Road.  The trail veers east towards a communications tower. Do not head left towards the tower but continue straight until you see the view of St. John's and the Narrows. After finding cache, you can continue down the trail to Long Pond behind Memorial University - it is a beautiful walk.

From the Long Pond Trail you have a few options.  You can park at the Fluvarium, head west along the north side of Long Pond; for a shorter walk you can park on Mount Scio Road parking area just off of Allandale Road and walk down to Long Pond from there. Walk towarss the Health Sciences/ Autism Centre end of the Long Pond walk, and turn up the hill before the Autism Centre instead of continuing left around the pond. At the Centre you will walk past the community gardens and the musical playground.  Keep an eye out for an old tree on the left before turning right up some steep steps. This trail will lead you straight to the cache.

The cache is a 1L camo'd container, hidden in a non-winter friendly manner.  Please return as found, out of muggle eyes.
