Diese Tour zeigt Dir einen schönen Aussichtspunkt nördlich von Aachen mit einer besonderen 'Felsformation'. In den gut 20 Jahren seit Cache-Legung sind Sträucher und leider auch Brombeerranken reichlich gewachsen, so dass Aufstieg und Aussicht sich gänzlich verändert haben, die Aufgaben mussten daher 2024 angepasst werden. (Wenn Du per Gartenschere die Brombeerranken auf den Wegen mit einzudämmen hilfst, würde mich das freuen!)
Die nächstgelegenen Bushaltestellen sind 'Technologiepark' und 'Kohlscheid Bahnhof'. Mit dem Auto von der Roermonder Str. (L232) unmittelbar nördlich der Araltankstelle abbiegend ist der Parkstreifen der Englerthstr. bei N 50° 49.681, E 6° 4.542 gut geeignet.
Die Tour startet bei N 50° 49.582, E 6° 4.543, sie lässt sich recht gut als Rundweg zu Fuß machen. Überquer’ die Felsen, die über den nassen Talgrund führen und folge den inzwischen verwilderten Pfaden auf das Dach der Landform.
Oben (N50° 49.500, E6° 4.400) gibt’s fünf Aufgaben:
Aufgabe 1: Stell’ Dich auf’s 'W'. Wieviele Felsen zählst Du bis zum Zentrum von Coalhenge, ohne den Felsen, auf dem Du stehst? A =
Aufgabe 2: Sieh Dich nach Möglichkeit weiträumig um - stehst Du auf der nördlichsten B = 8, östlichsten B = 4 oder südlichsten B = 0 Steinkohlenhalde des Aachener Reviers?
Aufgabe 3: Wieviele Halden gibt es im Aachener Revier? Sind es mehr als 4, dann ist C = 6 Sind es weniger als 4, dann ist C = 2
Aufgabe 4: Au weia, jetzt geht's um Allgemeinbildung... aber das kann ich Euch bei dem Cachenamen nicht ersparen ... also, wo liegt eigentlich Stonehenge, von hier aus betrachtet?
Wenn es plus minus 40km auf dem gleichen Breitengrad liegt, dann ist D = 6. Wenn es auf einem Breitengrad 400km nördlich liegt, dann ist D = 7. Wenn es auf einem Breitengrad 800km nördlich liegt, dann ist D = 5.
Aufgabe 5: Wieviele Metallschilder waren ursprünglich in die äußeren Granitsteine ringsum eingelassen und wiesen einst die Richtung zu bekannten Orten? Sie sind inzwischen zwar sämtlich geklaut, aber ich denke, Du bekommst es heraus. Bei 30-40 ist E = 5, bei 40-50 ist E = 4, bei mehr als 50 ist E = 3.
Um den Originaltext zu zitieren: Im Nordwesten kann man die Skihalle bei Landgraaf sehen, im äußersten Osten die Wolken, die vom Braunkohlekraftwerk Weisweiler produziert werden und im Suedosten erkennt man den Rand des Aachener Talkessels und die dahinter beginnende Eifel.
Vielleicht gelingt Dir, das eine oder andere davon noch zu erspähen.
Auf der Südwestseite führt ein kurzer Pfad vom Plateau bequem zurück auf den Hauptweg.
Der Cache liegt bei N 50° 49.CBA, E 6° 04.ED1. Bitte geht so mit der Vegetation um, dass es Cache und Umgebung gut geht und das Versteck lange erhalten bleibt.
Der breite Weg führt anschließend wieder zurück zur Siedlung.
Auch ein Weg rund um den Haldenfuß ist inzwischen angelegt worden, und einen Cache gibt es dort mit GC48RN7 nun auch. Viel Spaß!

English This cache will take you to a nice look-out north of Aachen with a special 'rock formation'. Vegetation grew well during more than 20 years since the cache was placed… (I‘d appreciate if you‘d want to help keeping the paths clear by bringing along pruning shears to cut off some of the berry shoots.) The tasks had to be adapted accordingly in 2024.
Nearest public transport stops are 'Technologiepark' and 'Kohlscheid Bahnhof'. By car: Turn off Roermonder Str. (L232) immediately north of Aral gas station. Parking is recommended on Englerthstr. around N 50° 49.681, E 6° 4.542.
The trip starts at N 50° 49.582, E 6° 4.543 and can quite well be taken as round trip.
Cross the rocks across the wet ground and follow the paths up to the top. At the top (N 50° 49.500, E 6° 4.400) there are five questions:
1) Stand on the 'W'. How many granite boulders do you count to the center of Coalhenge, excluding the one you stand on? A =
2) Try to take a view… is this landform the most northern B = 8, eastern B = 4 oder southern B = 0 slag heap of the Aachen territory?
Question 3) How many slag heaps are there in the so-called Aachener Revier? If it’s more than 4, then C = 6 If it’s less than 4, then C = 2
Question 4) Sorry, got to test your common knowledge... given the name of this cache... now, looking from here, where do you locate Stonehenge? If it lies plus minus 40km on the same circle of latitude, then D = 6 If it lies on a circle of latitude 400km to the north, then D = 7 If it lies on a circle of latitude 800km to the north, then D = 5
5) How many metal plates were once mounted onto the surrounding Circle of stone blocks, pointing in the directions of well-known places? The plates are all stolen by now, still I‘m confident you‘ll find out. If you count 30-40, then E = 5, if 40-50 E =4, if more than 50 E = 3.

Maybe you are able to still get some of the views. A Short path southeast easily takes you from the plateau back to the main track.
