Geocache Description:

"Buffalo Springs was once a hotel & health resort w/ 5 mineral springs, a bottling works, & a farm on over 1,600 acres & operated commercially from 1811-1949. Presently, Buffalo Springs consists of widely distributed archaeological remains over more than 90 acres within the boundaries of USACE John H. Kerr Reservoir, Walker Property & a reconstructed spring house." ("What Adam Drank in Paradise")

Buffalo Lithia Springs was known to Europeans as early as 1728. People continue to come from miles around to drink from this ancient and time-honored watering place. Spring #2's medicinal healing properties were praised and brochures boasted of cures for gout, rheumatism, nervous disorders, anemia, acid dyspepsia, malarial diseases, gall stones and various female diseases. Lithium (an alkali metal supposedly with healing properties) was found in significant amounts only in spring #2 and was also thought to "increase appetite, exhilarate the spirit, and bring new life and vigor to the body".
