On Cynthia Road, which connects Clinton and Jackson near the Natchez Trace bridge over U.S.Highway 49 North at the city limits a long stretch of roadway was planted in the 1850's with Bois D'arc or Osage Orange trees on each side. The trees, planted by the Virden family, form a procession of closely planted trees flanking and overhanging the roadway which was once called the "Longino Road," which led to Governor Longino's home nearby. An old grove of these trees provide summer shade within a stone's throw of the new Natchez Trace bridge over Highway 49.

The word Bois D'arc means "arc of wood" or "wood of the bow". Its common name comes from the Osage tribe which first made and traded bows made from the wood. The thorns from the tree were the inspiration for barbed wire.
