Geocache Description:

AZTEC MAN

BRIEF: This is a nice, easy drive-by traditional with an integrated virtual enhancement.

DETAILS: This cache is a quick stop if you are going to or from Bisbee on Highway 80 North/West of the tunnel. The cache container is a regular size ammo can painted desert tan, and hidden amongst a pre-existing rock pile. There is a wide pull-out at this location for easy and safe parking; it's on the West side of the road. But, the real treat is seeing the profile of the Aztec Man’s face in the rocks. Use the attached picture and look north to spot him. Darren learned about this from Old Man Thomas when he worked the Thomas Ranch further down the canyon. We dedicate this cache to the memory of New Hampshire’s Old Man of The Mountain that crumbled this year. Original contents are posted in a picture.

The Aztec culture originated in the four-corner area of present day Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado. In the late twelfth century they began a slow migration southward until they reached Mexico and gained prominence in the late fourteen hundreds. The Aztecs were an advanced civilization that built intricate cities such as Tenochtitlan, which was their island capital. The Aztecs were primarily a sedentary culture that relied on hunting and gathering. The Aztecs were dedicated to their religion. A showing of this dedication was human sacrifices in impressive ceremonies to the gods. Dress was an important part of Aztec religion and daily life. The Aztecs were a very advanced civilization for their time and through religious beliefs, government involvement, and family life they lived a full and productive life.
