Rattlesnake Creek Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Melrose Plant: It is a little sad, but I'm afraid it is time to put this one to rest. In two and a half years, there have been a few problems with the container, the hiding spot was destroyed, and now it has been attacked by a critter. A large hole was chewed in the lid, and the contents sampled by something. But it has never been muggled. I guess I hid it well.

Thank you to all who visited my cache.

Geocache Description:

If you're looking for a challenge in hunting, but not hiking, this is the cache for you! It is pretty steep, but not difficult or long, down to the cache site. Although I have rated it a 2 overall, the last few feet could be quite overgrown in the summer. If you enter the brush just right, I tried to keep you away from too many stickers!

I think it’s about time that we had a microcache in our area. Maybe this isn’t a true micro, but it’s pretty small. It’s a ½ cup (4 oz.) Rubbermaid container, measuring about 3” in diameter by 3” tall (Edit 10/17/2004: I have changed the category to "small", which wasn't one of the options when I originally hid this cache).

As such, I hid it in a place where you don’t have to do a lot of walking, so you can spend your time searching. It’s in an Indianola City Park, and is located in a spot where you’re not likely to be bothered by muggles or the muggle police, so you can search in peace. It is also in a place where I can check on it fairly often, to make sure it is all right. There is room for very small trade items, but don't knock yourself out trying to trade up. Just make sure the lid snaps back on properly.

Park at N41° 21.963’ W093° 34.346’, or thereabouts.

UPDATE AS OF SEPTEMBER 8, 2004: After several log entries indicating that the container was easy to spot from some distance away and was out in the open, I replaced the container. It is still exactly the same as before, only painted a sort of woodland camo color. Put another way for absolute clarity, it is no longer a clear container with a white lid as it was when first hidden.

This will make it harder to find in the summer (more in line with its 3 star rating) and easier in the winter, which I believe to be a desirable thing.

Please take trouble to log Did Not Finds if that is the case, so I can decide whether this is a change for the better.
