Geocache Description:

Located in the Henry Ingraham Nature Preserve in Northport, New York.

Parking: N 40' 55.096 W 073' 20.003

This cache is located in the Henry Ingraham Nature Preserve on Waterside Road in Northport, New York.(Crab Meadow area) It is a very historic and serene area with plenty of open trails. The preserve was created in 1998 when the Town of Huntington and Suffolk County (with assistance from the Iroquois gas transmission system) purchased the land from the Ingraham family. (The gas pipeline runs nearby underground.) The hike is not incredibly far, and should be good for everyone. It will take you down a marsh area, through a very historic burial ground, and through some unique woods. Some parts of the hike should be very good for your heart!! The trailhead can be located on Waterside Road at N 40' 55.038 W 073' 20.017. The parking coords seem to me like the best place to leave your vehicle. If you can't park there, there's a pull off on Seaside Court also. The cache is a small Rubbermaid container that does not have a whole lot of room. You can keep the trade items fairly small, but use your judgment when you find it. Take some time while strolling this place, and you could get a feel for what the whole area was really like back in the 18th and 19th centuries. There is a cemetery marker with some local historical names on it worth reading as you pass by. Original trade items include a log book and pencil with sharpener, a dino toy, funny glasses, sheriff badges, and misc other fun goodies. As usual, have fun and please respect this place. You'll enjoy it.
