Chuck Walla: Greetings from Geocaching.com!

Since you have not responded to my reviewer log about your cache, the cache has been archived.

Some time ago, I posted a note to your cache page requesting a response from you to post what you were planning to do with the cache on the page and to send me a note. I have no record of a response, and no response tells me that you are not planning on replacing or repairing this cache. If I am wrong with that assumption, please let me know promptly. I can always unarchive the cache for you if needed.

Sincerely,

Geocache Description:

This is the first in what I hope will be a series of caches placed in old Civilian Conservation Corps Camps.

I was trying to decide on a new series of caches that would involve some aspect of local history, and decided to try to locate the old CCC camps in my area. This cache is approximately 20 miles N of Clarksville, AR on Highway 21. It is very easy to get to. Just go north out of Clarksville on Highway 21 until you reach the Ozone Recreation Area. This is a National Forest Recreation Area and is a fee area. There is a parking area outside the recreation area if you do not wish to pay the fee. Please respect this area for its history and do not disturb anything. The CCC was created in 1933 and this camp was established in 1935. You can start at the covered pavilion and follow the established trail to see some of the remains of the foundations and walkways that remain. The cache is not on the walkway but is not far off. It is a .50 caliber ammo can and originally contained a log, plastic frog, baseball, deck of cards, whistles (2), rubber ball and such. I have also included a brief history of the Civilian Conservation Corps in the cache. Have fun and spend some extra time exploring the Ozark Highlands Trail which crosses Highway 21 at this point. This is also an excellent area to picnic.
