Geocache Description:

The two sets of transmission towers sitting on the highest peaks in Southeast Arizona’s Mule Mountains have just been begging for a Geocache named “Mule’s Ears”. The most prominent of the peaks, and the one visible from virtually anywhere in the San Pedro or Sulfur Springs Valleys, is the location of this cache. At 7,088 ft. in elevation, the views from the cache site are some of the most spectacular in this corner of the State. We have rated this rather high in difficulty because the road to the top has deteriorated over ther past year and asks for high clearance or 4-wheel drive, although I have seen passenger cars up there. Those who chose to visit this cache will be rewarded stunning views. To reach the site, take Hwy 80 to the Mule Pass Tunnel in Bisbee AZ. But, instead of going through the tunnel, go on top of tunnel to a monument to the 1913 road builders. From there go north on N Juniper Flats Rd, marked Primitive Road, and proceed up the hill 7 miles to the first set of “Ears”. Passenger cars should park here, at 6,900 ft., N 31 28.416, W 109 57.213, for views down on the towns of Bisbee and Warren, and to walk the remaining mile or so to the other set of “Ears” and the cache. The cache is a large black-painted plastic jar hidden Arizona-style under rocks. Take a picnic lunch and enjoy the beauty of Cochise County.
