Geocache Description:

This cache is located in a rock field not far off the Appalachian Trail (AT) near Wind Gap, Pennsylvania. While we standing on the field in certain positions we could hear water running below us.

Late in December of 2003 we were hiking the Wind Gap/Fox Gap section of the AT and met another individual who told us about this rock garden. Since night was approaching we did not go the garden that day. We went home, studied the maps and the aerial photography on lostoutdoors.com. On New Years Day we located the garden and decided it was an excellent place for a geocache.

If you are thinking of attempting the cache please:
1. Be prepared for a longer than usual hike to the cache.
2. A short bushwhack is also required.
3. Please carry plenty of water and some snacks or lunch.
4. Note that the rocks, both on and off the AT, are typical of the ones that are found along this trail in Pennsylvania. Many of them are pointed (see photo) and most of them appear to be pointed upward.
5. We have only been to this location during the winter. We believe the area will contain many mosquitoes in season.
6. Hunting is permitted in the area in season.

The cache is an ammo box. Our trademark bottle of water (or possibly ice) is located next to the cache. It is available to the first thirsty cacher to find it.

To hide the cache we parked at the Wind Gap parking area for the AT, at N 40º51.645’ W075º17.553’. After hiding the cache we followed the rock garden and the sounds of the underground stream to N 40º53.315’ W075º16.285’ where the stream surfaces. Then followed the stream until we approached a posted area. From here we bushwhacked back to the AT. Just as we arrived at the AT it started to snow violently. (See photos.) The snow only lasted 10 or 15 minutes, but there was enough to cover the ground with a white blanket.
