Geocache Description:

Geo-Picnic and Camping in the Beautiful Historic Princess Place Preserve.

Hello fellow Geocachers! We are having a picnic on February 28, 2004 starting at 11:00am. We will be throwing some chicken on the barbie for everyone but please bring sides for yourself and (if you like) others. We have a few geocaching games planned for everyone. There will also be a cache hidden with the event logbook that must be signed (creativity gets you bonus points) to claim this event as a find.

If you would like to camp with us (for free) I will be obtaining the permit for Friday and Saturday nights. Sorry, primitive camping (i.e. tents) only. There are restrooms available. Please let me know if you are planning on camping because the # of campers will determine what area we are assigned. Coordinates for the camping area will be posted at the entrance to the preserve.

There are several caches hidden in the area for those who wish to hunt them. They are:

  • GCB006 – The Princess Place
  • GCF81A – Cherokee Grove
  • GCHHCH – Fishing Pond
  • GCHH6P – Taurelasse
  • GCHH6T – Bridge over troubled…Highway?
  • GCGD50 – FDSP (This is a puzzle cache and you will need to solve it before hunting, also, it is hidden in Faver-Dykes park and there is a $3.00 admittance fee)
  • BINGO - GEOSTYLE

We will be playing a game of Geocaching Bingo. This will involve answering a variety of questions regarding your fellow Cachers in order to fill the squares on your Bingo card. The first full card wins. It's a wonderful Icebreaker.

Bingo cards will be distributed as participants arrive at the event on Saturday morning. The card will contain the questions and further explain the rules. Therefore, early arrivals will have a natural advantage. A prize will be awarded the winner.

    WHEEL OF FORTUNE - GEOSTYLE

A series of caches will be placed in Princess Place Park. One will contain a "Wheel of Fortune" style puzzle. The objective will be to solve that puzzle. One other cache will contain the hint explaining what the phrase is. The other caches will contain the letters. For each letter, there will also be instructions on which boxes that letter fills (you'll have to play your own Vanna White).

Cachers may form teams of as many or as few members as they like. However, teams must stay together and all members must be present for finding each cache. Splitting up and combining letters is not allowed. The advantage of more team members will be more eyes to find the caches and more minds to solve the puzzle. Once your team is formed please either post on this page, or email IceCreamMan, the name of your team and it's members.

STARTING: All teams will depart the starting area at the same time. Caches may be done in any order so you may proceed to any cache first.

CACHES: The caches placed for the event may be micros or traditionals. They will vary in difficulty. There will be no hints. The contents of the specific caches will be unknown to players until they find them. Coordinates will be provided the day of the event.

SOLVING THE PUZZLE: The first team to solve the puzzle wins. It is NOT necessary to complete all caches before solving the puzzle. However, to discourage guessing and to encourage finding caches, all attempted solutions must be reported to the Game Host (IceCreamMan), at the starting point, in person, with all of your team members present. No cell phone or FRS reported solutions will be accepted. If the guess is wrong, that guess will be broadcast via FRS radio, Channel 7, to all interested parties (Hint: Monitor Channel 7). The team making the incorrect guess will not be allowed to attempt another guess for 20 minutes.

PROBLEMS: The Game Host will be monitoring FRS Radio Channel 7 to address any problems. Also, if reception permits, teams may wish to get the Game Host cell number before departing. However, using these media (or any other) to ask for hints may result your team being given a misleading hint. I will prepare a list of possible stemwinders while placing the caches.

PRIZES: Everyone will get a prize for playing, but you also have to bring something for the prize table (in the $5 - $10 range.) The sooner you solve the puzzle, the sooner you get to pick your prize (same idea as several recent events) There will also be an extra special prize for the team that solves the puzzle first!
