Titmouse Park Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Amtraker: Well, visited the cache today and it is gone again. Only thing left is the camo cover with most of the camo missing. This beautiful little park is NO longer beautiful. Most of the grass is dead and a homeless man now has made this his home.

I hate to archive my very first cache but I no longer want to bring people here. If this park is ever re-habilitated I'll create a new cache but for now a fond farewell to my first cache and thanks to all of you who visited.

Geocache Description:

Titmouse Park is a tiny oasis nestled between buildings in the city of Playa del Rey (The King's Beach)

Oak Titmouse

Titmouse Park was built by volunteers and it is a nice place to eat your lunch and view the precious Ballona Wetlands which once encompassed an area of over 2,000 acres covering much of today's Venice, Marina del Rey and parts of West Los Angeles. Over the years the wetlands have been degraded and reduced by human activity and urban development (especially the development of Marina del Rey and the channeling of Ballona Creek in the 1930s) to less than 190 acres.

For more info on the Ballona Wetlands see:

This is my first cache so I welcome any advice. The cache is camouflaged and it is a small 3" round x 2" deep tupperware-like container. Larger than a micro but still small so bring only small items! Note, parking is very limited in this area so be prepared to walk a bit.

Original cache contents:

  1. Metro Green Line Keychain
  2. DIRECTV Pin
  3. FUEL TV Channel Keychain
  4. Mimi's Cafe Free Child Menu Item Wood Coin
  5. Knotts Berry Farm Train Pin
  6. Soccer Ball Keychain
  7. Vacman GeoCoin #020

Grab your lunch and head over to Titmouse Park. Be sure to read the informative Ballona Wetlands display in the park. And remember to:

"Cache In/Trash Out!"

Updates:
  • 01/18/04: Note: There have been reports of a homeless person camping over night next to the cache so you might want to avoid night and early morning. Also, although I took an average a couple of times my coordinates might be a bit off due to the trees overhead. The cache is located in Titmouse Park.
  • 02/04/04: Added photo of Oak Titmouse.
I am preparing a new cache container to replace the original one which is in need of repair.
  • 05/17/04: Replaced missing cache container, improved camouflage, and updated coordinates. Cache on!
