Geocache Description:

Another in the series of caches along the Spadra Creek Nature Trail.

The best known folk hero of the Northwoods is the giant lumberjack, Paul Bunyan. A product of rugged humor, wit and spontaneous exaggeration, his 'legend' was created in the bunkhouses of ordinary logging camps, by ordinary working men, while they gathered around the glowing woodstoves on cold winter evenings. It was from there that stories about Paul and Babe spread throughout the pine shanties of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. The lumberjacks heard and then retold the fables, often weaving in local or personal embellishments as they passed the tales on. Here is a an example of the many tales they once told...

Paul Bunyan is Born
It took five giant storks, working overtime, to deliver him to his parents. Three hours after his birth he was reported to weigh a full eighty pounds and they used a lumber wagon drawn by a team of oxen as a baby carriage. His baby voice was described as 'sort of a cross between a buzz saw and a bass drum'. He cut his teeth on a peavy pole and grew so fast that after one week he had to wear his father's clothes. He would eat forty bowls of porridge just to whet his appetite. His lungs were so strong that he could empty a whole pond of frogs with one "holler".

This is not the Northwoods, nor is it Michigan, Wisconsin or Minnesota but the ledgend of Paul Bunyan stretches far & wide.

I have been trying to find sneakier ways to hide containers larger than the micro variety, & I think this qualifies. Located at a fairly secluded spot along the trail, this should give you ample opportunity to search. You can also see both directions along the trail for approaching muggles.

A good place to park for this one is at the nearby cache, A Little Levy Madness. After grabbing that one you can cross the Main Street Bridge & then make the short walk to this one. If you plan on trying for the rest of the caches along the trail, you are now walking the loop in the easiest direction.

Spadra Creek Nature Trail makes a 2.6-mile complete loop that is easiest if walked in a clockwise direction. Planned improvements to pave & light the trail on the other side of creek have just been completed. Hopefully they will do this side of the trail loop in the future. The peaceful serenity along this trail has always been an enjoyable favorite.

This cache is located on city property & placed with permission of the Clarksville City Parks Department.

Container is a fully-grown 30 cal. ammo can with special cammo. It contains the normal trade items found in most caches.

Please try to replace the cache in the same manner in which you found it so the next cacher will have the same challenge. We also ask that you be careful in logging this find so your comments will not give clues to future cachers.

Should this cache need attention or if you have any suggestions for improving this cache please send us an email. Remember, your log is our reward for placing caches. The more you write the better we like it.
